What is Future Reference

Future Reference is the ultimate digital wardrobe built for resale.

We help you organize your purchase, track resale values, and make it easy to sell when the time is right.

How do I start archiving my wardrobe?

Well, there are a few ways!

We make it  easy to add items from your actual closet to your digital wardrobe.

Gmail Sync
Import items in one click by linking your Gmail. We will pull in any purchases from our supported merchants and vendors.

Currently we only support Gmail linking. If you would like to beta another platform, send us a note here.

Link
If we miss an item, you can import it usin gour link upload. To do so go to Wardrobe > Add an Item > Import the Link > Select Size > Add to Wardrobe.

Any items added via the URL upload will need to be verified by sending the receipt to uploads@futurereferenc.xyz.

Where do your estimated resale values come from?

Our resale values are estimates based on publicly available data, and other inputs like the age of the item. We may not have resale values for all brands. If you have feedback on any of our estimates, please submit feedback in the upper right hand corner of the app.

Archiving: Forwarding your receipts

Let us do the work for you. Simply forward order confirmation or receipt emails from your inbox to uploads@futurereference.xyz.

*Please make sure that the email you forward from matches the email on your account.

How to:
1.
Go to your inbox and search for "order confirmation"
2. Select all the relevant emails you want to send to Future Reference.
3. Click 'Forward as attachment'
4. Send to uploads@futurereference.xyz

We will email you again once your item(s) have been uploaded to your archive. This usually takes 24 hours (but in busy periods can take longer). Receipts received on weekends will be processed the following Monday.

We are only able to process order confirmations for apparel and accessories purchases from our accepted brands. We are also only able to process order confirmations that contain a photo of your item, along with an item description. This is how we get the data to create the automated listings. Without a photo, there is no way of verifying whether we are uploading the correct item for you.

Helpful tips:
Set up automatic forwarding so we'll automatically get any new receipts that come to your inbox! Set up rules from your desktop to bulk-select old receipts and send them all at once.

1. Open an order confirmation or receipt email from an online retailer that you shop at frequently
2. Tap "More"
3. Click on 'Filter messages like this'
4. Set up to send to uploads@futurereference.xyz

Archiving: Submit a link

If we miss an item, you can submit a link directly! Simply,

1. Find your item online, copy the URL and paste it into the form.
2. Your item will either automatically import, or you may be given a warning that the website is not yet supported.
3. If the item does import, click into the item details to save your size.

If the item does not import, we'll manually review and add it for you within 24 hours.

Note: Items manually added will not get an Verification tag when they are resold. To get the Verification tag, you must email us the receipt to link to your Wardrobe.

What should I do if a site isn't supported?

If your favorite brand is not supported by the Future Reference Chrome extension, be sure to "Give Feedback" in the app so that we can work to add it to our list of partners.

Selling

A luxury marketplace built for sellers.
Sellers: How do I list an item on Future Reference?

Future Reference is a peer to peer marketplace. By digitizing your wardrobe, you can list your items for resale on Future Reference in seconds.

To list an item:
1. Select an item from your archive
2. Condition: Add details about the condition
3. Generate a description: Add a description or, better yet, let us do it for you. Clicking the generate button will create a description that combines your personal condition information with the item's details, including materials and fit information. We help you create the perfect listing, but you can always edit if you need.
4. Price: Set your price. You can use our recommendation and references to past sales as a guide.
5. Add photos: We guide you through the required photos that best showcase the item and its condition.

Listings will then be sent for review. Once reviewed, your listing will go live, tied to the original product. Anyone tracking that item will be notified of your posting.

To sell, you will also need a return address on file. This is the address we will use to generate the shipping label.

Helpful tips:

  • Ensure the photos accurately represent the condition of the item. If there are any tears, stains, or visible wear, please document them. This prevents items from being returned later, per the Future Reference Experience Guarantee.
  • Follow our photo guidelines, and make sure to include photos of the tags for clothing items. This helps us verify authenticity, and helps your items sell faster.
Sellers: How do I verify an item?

Verified items sell faster and build marketplace trust. 'Verification' means that the digital receipt has been verified to match the listing by the Future Reference team. Digital receipts are the best proxy for ownership, sometimes better than physical authentication.

To verify your item:
1. Go to your inbox and search for the receipt
2. Forward it to uploads@futurereference.xyz

You'll receive an email back from support@futurereference.xyz when your item has been verified. At that point you'll also see a badge in your wardrobe and on any future listings.

We do not save any personally identifiable information when you email us your receipt. We only ensure that the email and product match the one you have tied to your Future Reference account.

Sellers: Can I sell any brand?

With Future Reference you can buy and sell women’s fashion, jewelry and accessories from hundreds of the top luxury, contemporary, and ready to wear brands. You can find a full list of our supported brands here, and we will add more brands over time.

While you can add any item to your Archive, not all brands can be sold on our marketplace. We do not accept fast fashion, and focus on high quality brands which hold their value.

Sellers: What happens after an item is purchased
  • Once purchased, we will email you a label to ship directly to the buyer.
  • Please ship within 3 days.
  • Once the item is delivered and the sale is approved, you will receive your earnings.
Sellers: How do I get my earnings?

You can withdraw your earnings from Future Reference anytime for free. Link your bank account via Stripe to receive payouts.

Future Reference partners with Stripe for payouts. To link a bank account:
1. Go to My account
2. Add a bank account
3. You will be taken to a Future Reference x Stripe portal where you can securely enter your personal and bank information.
4. After completing the Stripe setup, you will be taken back to Future Reference and are ready to sell.

Sellers: How do fees work?
  • < $15: For sales under $15, we charge a single flat rate of $2.95. You keep the rest.
  • > $15: For sales of $15 or more, we charge 20% of the listing price and you keep 80%.
Sellers: Does Future Reference allow for returns?

No, sellers cannot accept returns at this time.

Every purchase is protected by Future Reference’s Experience Guarantee. We will give you a full refund if your item never ships or does not match the listing description. Otherwise, all sales are final.

How do I track items I want to buy secondhand?

Either
1. Add an item already in the Future Reference Archive to your Wishlist.
2. Add an item to the Future Reference Archive, then add it to your Wishlist.

How do I add an item to the database to track?

Archive wherever you shop!

Don't see that item you’ve been desperately in search of in our database (i.e. the Future Reference Archive)? Add the details so that we can track future resale listings for that item.

You can add to our database via our URL import or via the Chrome Extension.

Once the item is in our database, we track listings across our own marketplace, as well as other marketplaces like Poshmark and Vestiaire Collective. We’ll notify you if an item is listed, so you can stop the endless searching.

Add an item to your wishlist via URL import

  • Automated imports: Submit items to the archive by going to My Archive > Add an Item > Import. Instead of adding the specific size to your Archive, click through on the product info and then click the heart icon to wishlist the item for tracking.
  • Manual imports: If the import does not work, we will add the info and then email you when the item is added so you can then add the item to your wishlist.

Shop with Google Chrome? Easily archive products on 200+ brand and retailers.
Future Reference’s Chrome Extension identifies products as you shop. Click the extension to add items to our database from hundreds of stores.

1. Shop online as you normally do.
2. Click the Future Reference extension on any product page.
3. Review the item details.
4. Click add to Wishlist

Can I submit any URL?
You can submit the link for any URL. However, we only allow specific brands as part of the Future Reference Archive. You can find the list here.

How do I get notified about new listings for items in my Wishlist?

We will email you when a seller posts a listing for an item in your Wishlist.

Can I track specific sizes?

Not yet, but coming soon.

What is the difference between wishlisting items and listings?

You can wishlist both items and listings.

When you wishlist an archived item you will get notified when a listing becomes available. You can view your wishlisted items by going My Wishlist > Items.

Wishlisting a listing saves that specific listing. You’ll get notified about offers and price decreases. You can see your favorite listings by going to My Wishlist  > Listings.

Buying

Buy, wear, sell, repeat.
Offers & Purchases: Sending an offer

Buyers can send offers to sellers for their consideration. Buyers can send it to a specific seller, or to all sellers that own that item, whether their item is listed or not.

Sellers can then chose whether to accept your offer. All offers are binding, and are good for 24 hours. Once they receive your offer they can:

Decline
Counter

If the offer expires, you can send a new offer after 24 hours. Please do not spam sellers with offers, as this may result in removal from the platform.

Binding offers
All offers are binding and cannot be canceled. Once you send an offer, if the seller accepts your credit card on file will be charged.

Offers & Purchases: : Can I cancel my offer?

No, offers are binding and cannot be canceled. Please make sure that when you send an offer you are ok purchasing the item for that price.

Authentication: What does it mean when an item is ‘verified’?

Verified means that the seller has forwarded us a digital or physical receipt that verifies their ownership of the item. We use manual and automated methods to verify email authenticity and owner trust.

Authentication: How does Future Reference ensure authenticity?

All items are digitally inspected by both AI and manual review. We also use extensive Trust & Safety measures to fight spam.

We also verify listings via receipt checking that the personal info on the receipt matches that of the seller. All items verified via receipt will receive a Verified badge.

If you think a listing may contain items that are not authentic, please report the item by going to the product page > Report An Issue.

If you think an item is not authentic upon arrival, you can request a physical inspection. Every purchase is protected by Future Reference’s Experience Guarantee. We will give you a full refund if your item never ships or does not match the listing description.

Shipping & delivery: How does shipping work

Shipping: All items ship with $8.00 Future Reference USPS Priority Mail shipping.

When you purchase an item, we send a shipping label to the seller. They then package the item, and ship it. You’ll receive an email when the item begins tracking.

Shipping & delivery: How long does the seller have to ship my item?

Sellers should ship within 3 days. The large majority of our sellers ship within 2 days.

However, if a seller takes over 7 days to ship an item, you can cancel your shipment if it is not yet tracking. To do so, email support@futurereference.xyz with your order number.

Returns & cancelations: Can I return my purchase?

Please note that in accordance with our Terms, items purchased from individual sellers cannot be returned or exchanged, unless misrepresented. They can be relisted free of charge. All purchases are ensured by our Experience Guarantee.

Returns & cancelations: What do I do if the item doesn't match the condition of the listing?

Once the item is delivered, you have 3 days to inspect the item. Every purchase is protected by Future Reference’s Experience Guarantee. We will give you a full refund if your item never ships or does not match the listing description.

Returns & cancelations: I’m not sure if my item is genuine?

Future Reference aims to be a marketplace and community where luxury enthusiasts can shop with confidence. We take questions of authenticity very seriously. If you have doubts about the authenticity of your item, please report it to us directly at support@futurereference.xyz with your order number.

What happens next?
Ship it back.
If we think the item needs to be further authenticated, we’ll provide you with a prepaid shipping label so that you can ship it to us free of charge. You must ship the item within 7 days, otherwise the label will be voided and no return is possible.
Review. Once we receive the item, our physical authentication team will check it out within 5 working days. Our authentication team uses technology including Entropy and manual inspection to determine authenticity.
Return or re-listing. If our experts have no doubt as to the authenticity of the item, you can select to have it shipped back to you or re-listed for sale on your account. When sold, we will ship the item to the buyer, and you will receive all proceeds from the sale minus our typical selling fee.
Refund. If we have any doubt about the authenticity of the item, or if the item is not as described by the seller, we will cancel the order and issue a full refund, including all fees.

What about the seller?
We are committed to creating a trustworthy community. Thus, we have a no tolerance policy for counterfeit items. If a seller sells an item that is to be determined inauthentic, they will be removed from the platform.

Refund Policy
When you make a purchase on Future Reference, we don't release payment to the seller until you tell us you've received your order as described. You have 3 days after delivery to inform us if the item has been misrepresented by reporting the problem in the Future Reference app or website with supporting photos. If we verify your claim, we'll send you a label to return the order to the seller and refund your payment. All returns must be shipped back within 7 days of approval to be eligible for a refund.

What is covered
If any of the following pertain to your order, please report the problem in the Future Reference app or website immediately:

Undisclosed damage
Incorrect or missing item
Item not as described
Item is not authentic

If no claim is made within 3 days of delivery, payment will be automatically released to the seller. Once payment has been released, all sales are final and no refunds will be provided.

What is not covered

Item does not fit / changed mind –
If the item is just not your style or does not fit you, we unfortunately cannot accept a return. You can always re-list the item on Future Reference.

Trades and offline transactions – Future Reference does not cover trades or transactions completed off of our platform. When payment for the full value of items is not exchanged through Future Reference, we cannot guarantee that both parties will ship and transact as promised. You bear all risks associated with any such transactions, and may be removed from the platform if repeated behavior.

How does Future Reference use my data?

Profile Information
In order to create an account, you may choose to share some basic information such as your name, address, and email. We use this information to provide our services and experience, including our digital wardrobe. Future Reference does not sell any of your personal information. Affiliate links make it possible to offer our services to you at no charge.

Your data is not for sale—we keep your data private at every stage in the browsing process. For more information about how we collect and use data, please visit our Privacy Policy.

Purchase Information
In order to provide estimated resale values, we collect basic item information: price, brand, item name, color, and merchant. The Future Reference Chrome Extension only collects data for sites when you are archiving purchase information.

Product Improvements
We collect limited information around how you interact with the Chrome Extension and web app in order to make sure everything is working correctly, and inform how to best improve our experience.

What do I do if I forgot my password?

You can reset your password from the Login page by clicking the "Forgot Your Password" link located underneath the "Sign In" button. You will receive an email that will prompt you to create a new password.
